He grew up hearing stories told by his mother about the Monsters in the world. Each story scared him more and more. He finally told his mother to stop telling him when he was five. Which is when his father went out with a group of men to kill some actual monsters. Toshio told Katsuro to be save and not be killed. His father did not come home that night. His sister was killed next. She was out on a date with her boy friend, she was ten years older at 15. Apparently, some people who claimed they saw the whole thing, Haruka was talking to her boyfriend about how all Monsters shouldn’t be allowed to live. It turns out her boyfriend was one of the Monsters she was talking about, a Demon. He apparently killed her. Toshio believed that. His mother died of heartbreak a last year when he was 17, they had moved to the town and he enrolled into Kaijuu high.. He was devastated that his mother choose to be selfish, letting herself die when she still had one son left. He felt bad about thinking that of her, and took if back.
